The obvious question is: why not use off-the-shelf tools? ChatGPT exists. So do dozens of domain-specific AI apps. Why build custom systems?

Their IP is the carefully refined, complex system prompt and tooling that makes those models exceptionally good at building software. They've codified expertise about software architecture, user experience patterns, and deployment into a system that consistently produces better results than a raw model could.

When you extract your experts' decision-making logic and encode it into system prompts, retrieval patterns, and validation rules, you're creating a unique asset. The base LLM is a commodity.
